Aurum was created purely for the joy of design without a client, brief, or commercial intent. The result is total creative freedom, merging elements of modernist and art deco design through a contemporary lens — the designers cite “modern Hollywood style” as a key inspiration.
As its name (Latin for “gold”) suggests, Aurum celebrates richness not just in color, but in materials, form, and spatial experience. It’s a luxurious yet earthy landscape where sharp architectural elements meet flowing organic lines, creating a space that feels both sophisticated and grounded.
The garden is made up of fluid zones — from the daybed to the spa to the alfresco dining area — using curved forms and an intuitive layout that avoids traditional landscape hierarchies. It’s designed to encourage exploration, connection, and a sense of indulgence.
X-Bond was chosen for its seamless concrete-inspired appearance, contributing to the garden’s cohesive material language and enhancing the sculptural quality of the design. Given the temporary nature of this installation, as well as the time constraints for setup, our lightweight hand-trowelled render was perfect. Not to mention that its durability and slip resistance also make it an ideal surface solution for poolside use.
Having introduced X-Bond Microcement to the market in 1991, it’s rewarding to see the material embraced in such visionary and esteemed projects 30 years later. Aurum reflects exactly the kind of creative potential we hoped to unlock when we first saw the promise of this versatile finish.
